The surgery went extremely well yesterday, and Lois stated that she would like continued prayers for Luca, his family and the family that gave the gift of life to baby Luca and to keep him on our prayer list.

doris cavala

She has had multiple-myeloma since 2015 and is well past the expected survival period of around 5 years. Multiple Myeloma is plasma cell cancer that affects the bone marrow.

She had a stem cell transplant in 2015 (which worked a bit but didn't get her into remission), innumerable rounds of chemo from 2015 to 2022 (which quit working about 18 months ago), and is now on to several just developed treatments that may or may not be working.

The Multiple Myeloma has caused significant damage to her shoulders (which gives her big problems) and back (which is controlled by pain blocking shots every so often).

Most pressing at this point, is that the new treatments she has been on for the past 15 months have destroyed her ability to taste.  In fact, virtually everything tastes horrible and she can hardly eat anything and force feeds herself to get maybe a few hundred calories a day.  She has dropped about 80 pounds in the past year and continues to struggle greatly with this to the point that she is contemplating giving up on the treatments to get her taste back but there is no guarantee that her taste will come back if she stops the treatment.  Talk about a rock and a hard place.

To add to her medical issues, her basement was flooded out (six feet of water) in early April and she had to move in with our sister for about 10 days as she lost power and water and all things in her basement (furnace, water heater, washer, and dryer, etc.) and her car was totaled due to water damage.  She is back home now and got a new furnace, water heater, and used car but we're still working on general clean up.

Throughout all of this, she continues to work full time and is highly active in her church (New Salem Presbyterian Church, PCUSA) being an Elder, running the mission team and food bank, and being a worship leader.  She has carried a very positive outlook and never pities herself nor seeks pity.  She is an amazing witness to perseverance and trust in the Lord.

Sorry for the length of this but it's hard to summarize all that she has been through is just a few words, and I even left some things out.

Thanks again for your prayers,

Carl

mary wolling

Mary's recovery is progressing.  Her pain has greatly lessened.  She is having PT which is helping.  Continue to pray that her healing continues and God provides everything Rick and she needs to manage this challenge.
